Petition To The City Council Of Garden Grove: Negative impacts of potential billboards

PETITION TO THE CITY COUNCIL OF GARDEN GROVE

 Date: Apr 9, 2012

Respectfully To: Mayor Bill Dalton and all council members

Ref:     Negative impacts of potential billboards on value of property, live and safety of children and residents in Garden Grove and affected travelers driving by.

My name is Lac Tan Nguyen, a resident of the City of Garden Grove for more than 17 years, commissioner of Administrative Board of Appeals, current Treasurer of The Federation of Vietnamese American Community of Southern California (formed in an election with 18,000 voters on Apr 18, 2010), and former President of the Vietnamese American Community of Southern California.

I am sorry that I can not appear in front of you to present my concern and support people who also really have the petition submitted to you because I am busy with an election event taking place at the same time on Bolsa avenue.

I am informed that two new huge billboards along Trask/22 Fwy for car dealership of Hyundai and Chevrolet are considered to be built in the near future and a potential fifth one may be added. These billboards could reduce traffic safety and value of houses of the residents of Garden Grove nearby.

  1. The safety of young students crossing Trask/Brookhurst intersection to Sunnyside, Jordan, Cook, Bolsa Grande schools are at risk. Hundred students and pedestrians crossing this intersection each day.
  2. More accidents at Trask/Brookhurst intersection and at 22 Fwy exit could take place.
  3. Value of the houses of the residents nearby will be reduced and hard to sell.
  4. Unbearable traffic delays could occur at Trask and Brookhurst intersection.

I am really concerned about the negative impacts of potential billboards on value of property, live and safety of children and residents in our city of Garden Grove as well as affected travelers.

We really want Mr. Mayor and council members to listen to the residents’ concern when deciding to give permission to erect these new billboards. The safety of the children, pedestrians, travelers and the value of our city residents’ house must come first.

Sincerely,

Lac Tan Nguyen
Head of Progress of Community Ticket
